DaVita Care Connect Clinician Portal

OVERVIEW

The DaVita Care Connect Clinician Portal stands as a transformative element within the DaVita Care Connect (DCC) platform, redefining the management of dialysis treatment. As a lead designer on this project, I focused on crafting an innovative and user-centric interface alongside designers Kirsten Meyer and Jason Crow. Our collaborative efforts were guided by the goal of creating a user-friendly application that seamlessly integrates with the established designs on the patient-facing app within DCC.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Dialysis treatment presents unique challenges, including the high frequency of patient visits and the critical need for continuous health monitoring. Recognizing these complexities, the DaVita Care Connect Clinician Portal aimed to streamline handling vast amounts of patient data. The goal was to create a user-friendly application that enables clinicians to manage appointment schedules efficiently, monitor patient health indicators, and facilitate seamless communication among care providers. Additionally, dynamic features, such as the treatment module, exemplify how the platform directly informs clinicians to take timely actions in the care process, enhancing its utility.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As the lead designer, collaboration with Kirsten Meyer and Jason Caws played a pivotal role. While I provided leadership and direction for the project, Kirsten and Jason brought their extensive knowledge of DCC and the existing designs on the patient-facing app. Our collaborative design leadership approach allowed us to draw on the strengths of each team member, resulting in a Clinician Portal that seamlessly extended the established design language of DaVita Care Connect.

PROCESS

The design process for the DaVita Care Connect Clinician Portal was a journey of careful planning and genuine collaboration. We understood the challenges clinicians face in dialysis care through conversations with stakeholders and practical user testing, shaping our approach with valuable insights.

Our strategy extended beyond design principles. We immersed ourselves in the authentic experiences of healthcare professionals, crafting every button and feature to harmonize with the unique rhythm of their daily workflows.

During the prototyping phase, the Clinician Portal evolved into a responsive application, adapting seamlessly to various devices—desktops, tablets, or mobiles. It was about creating a companion for clinicians, navigating their dynamic work environments effortlessly.

Additionally, the Clinician Portal's dashboard consolidates various applications into one view. Users no longer need to search everywhere or open multiple windows; each element on the dashboard opens the respective app or window with ease. This collaborative effort, refined based on valuable feedback, ensures a consistent and user-friendly experience across different devices, optimizing accessibility to essential tools.

OUTCOMES AND LESSONS

The DaVita Care Connect Clinician Portal has made a meaningful impact on healthcare delivery within DaVita. It showcases the effectiveness of blending user feedback, material design principles, and considerate UX design to tackle intricate healthcare challenges and enhance the standard of care delivery. Insights gained from this initiative have contributed to a deeper understanding of the connection between technology and healthcare, guiding ongoing enhancements in future projects.
